Caspar David Friedrich - Waldinneres bei Mondschein

(Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin)

I am not a huge fan of the Alte Nationalgalerie in general but I really am a sucker for german romantic paintings. They have this wonderful room with 15 paintings by Friedrich, including Der Mönch am Meer (my absolute favourite by Friedrich) and the Abtei in Eichwald that are standing on a wall next to each other. I have stayed for a good half an hour simply looking at these while listening to Schubert’s Winterreise (yes, so cliché) and just feeling the atmosphere. It was really wondeful.
